It's typical in Europe to regret about commercial hegemony of North American cinema. Unusually someone recalls that nobody has given anything for free to that handful of guys who started a little business close to a Californian village in the beginning of the XX Century. American people did it well, and they knew to take advantage of emigrant talent. Their mainstream is the one because they deserve it. At present, while Europe is resting on one's laurels again, the United States is promoting the digital cinema. All the American festivals accept it together with the 35 mm without prejudices, and a vast net that joins small festivals, internet press and DVD distribution is being weaved. Inexplicablely, in Europe a lot of festivals don't still accept video feature-length movies, critics and distributors don't still appear in a non-"A" rate festival and, of course, Hollywood is still guilty of everything. In twenty years' time, when this new way of making films brought by digital technology will be full introduced, it will have to remind to the usual cretins that America was working while Europe had, again, the head in the clouds.

Es típico en Europa lamentarse de la hegemonía comercial del cine norteamericano. Raramente se recuerda que a aquel puñado de tíos que montaron un negociete la lado de un pueblo de California a principios del siglo XX nadie les regaló nada. Los americanos han sabido hacerlo bien y aprovechar el talento emigrante. Su mainstream es el número uno por derecho propio. Ahora, mientras Europa vuelve a dormirse en los laureles, Estados Unidos potencia el cine digital. Todos sus festivales lo admiten sin prejuicios al lado del 35 mm, y se teje una extensa red que aúna festivales pequeños, prensa en Internet y distribución en DVD. En Europa, inexplicablemente, muchos festivales siguen sin admitir largometrajes hechos en vídeo, los críticos y los distribuidores siguen sin asomarse a un festival que no sea de categoría "A" y, por supuesto, la culpa de todo la sigue teniendo Hollywood. Dentro de veinte años, cuando esta otra forma de hacer cine que nos trae la tecnología digital esté plenamente implantada, habrá que volver a recordar a los cretinos de siempre que América se lo curró mientras Europa estaba, de nuevo, en babia.
